Every bride wants her wedding to be a reflection of her unique style and personality. But whilst on a day to day basis we know what makes us feel comfortable the idea of choosing a look and ‘theme’ for one of the most important days of your life may seem like a daunting task.
The reason I fell in love with Karen and John’s wedding is that it reflected who they truly were and what they wanted from their big day. A small and intimate wedding, with a nod to their English heritage, set in the most beautiful scenic location in New South West Australia. Beautiful bride Karen chose to wear an elegant lace dress and of course her ‘Evangeline Elliot’ vintage lace boots, a look which she describes as vintage, elegant and true to herself. The pictures reflect the warmth and joy of the day and I am honoured to share their wedding story and these gorgeous and love filled images by Katherine Wilson Photography with you!

So how did you meet your husband and how did he propose?
I met my husband John in 2013, although we had known each other for many years prior as we were in a social weekly ten pin bowling league. In September 2015 we went away for a weekend down the south coast to a beautiful seaside location on the south coast known as Huskisson and this was were John proposed to me, down on one knee with a beautiful bunch of yellow roses and a very sparkling ring and a card that he had written that said,’’For Karen, The lady of my dreams, who I have chosen to be my bride, for the rest of time. Lots of love John xxxx”.
Where did you get married and who did you invite?
We chose to have our wedding at a beautiful location in Shellharbour called Killalea state park in the gazebo surrounded with beautiful scenery. We chose to have a small intimate style wedding with close family and friends.
What was the main inspiration for your wedding?
Our chosen theme for our wedding was based on our families past heritage of once living in London (grandparents and our own parents and my future husband). We had a black London cab as our transport and we also chose to have the cake made in the design of the black London cab.
Tell us about your wedding look
This was a very difficult decision for me as I don’t normally wear dresses, and to be totally honest my future husband has never seen me in a dress until our wedding day. I am only short in height 5ft –1in and am petite in size. The style I was looking for was vintage ivory lace. I was extremely concerned with having to wear a dress that was wearing me, instead of a dress that I was wearing. In the end I selected a beautiful Stella York Cassidy ivory/mascato dress.
What made you choose a pair of House of Elliot boots for your wedding day?
I was extremely concerned with having to select a pair of high heel shoes as I don’t wear stiletto shoes, so I chose boots as this is what I feel more comfortable wearing. These boots were truly amazing, and I truly felt like a true princess. Not having to break in new shoes and suffering blisters on feet. These boots feel like you are wearing slippers.
What did you love the most about your wedding day?
Sharing our special day with family and friends and the entire day was one that memories will last a life time. I woke up the morning after our wedding and I thought to myself was that a dream I just had? Then realised that it was not a dream that I had experienced but it was truly a magical day.
What pearls of wisdom would you share with future brides who are planning their wedding?
When planning your wedding I think that you have to have a true vision and reflection of what you want to achieve on your special day and a true refection of what you can achieve. Self-Satisfaction of all of the time spent and hard work and planning leading up to fulfil your magical day will be worth it after all is said and done with no regrets.
