Once every so often, if geography permits, I have the pleasure of meeting a House of Elliot bride in person. In February I met lovely bride to be Jo and we ended up spending most of the afternoon talking weddings, love, and of course lace boots! Jo chose to wear our iconic ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’ Over the Knee Lace Boots and matching Ivory & Blue Couture Garter and wow did she look stunning. A few months after her big day we caught up over a spot of lunch and I was honoured to be one of the first people to see Jo’s & Leigh’s gorgeous wedding photos (featuring a beautiful classic horse drawn carriage!). I now have the pleasure of sharing their wedding story with you all. Wishing you an amazing and love filled life together Jo & Leigh! So how did you meet your husband and how did he propose?
Leigh and I met when he came to work at the same company as me. My colleagues had been teasing me for weeks saying a Rod Stewart impersonator was joining the company. However on meeting him for the first time, I thought ‘well you don’t look a bit like Rod Stewart, but I think you’re a bit of alright!!’ After a few weeks of meeting up in the evenings, we went on a ‘proper date’ to a party at Rod Stewart’s local pub in Epping. It was actually Leigh’s birthday! After talking of our dreams and aspirations, Leigh said he had one big dream to fulfil. I asked him what it was, and he said that one day he’d love me to be his wife. I said there was nothing I’d like more. Then shortly afterwards, the party music stopped, the lights went up and he went down on one knee with a microphone and proposed officially!!
Where did you get married and who did you invite?
We had a magical wedding!! I never thought marriage was for me, but when you meet the right man – everything just fits into place. We got married in a barn location in our local village in Yateley, Hampshire. Family and close friends celebrated with us and guest of honour was my horse Charlie!!
What was the main inspiration for your wedding?
Leigh is from London originally, and I’m more of a country girl! So we had a countrified, rustic theme, but styled with our individuality. We had a vintage 1932 Model Y Ford car take my Dad and me to the stables where I keep my horse (the car was owned and driven by Brian, a family friend and best man at my parents wedding 50 years ago!). We then got into a beautiful 1896 barouche carriage with 2 Belgium Black Stallions (T Cribb & Sons Carriage Masters) and were driven to our ceremony. I wore a traditional sweetheart Ivory & light gold lace dress, teamed with matching choker and lace gloves, plus of course my ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’ House of Elliot boots! Leigh wore a tweed inspired 3 piece, antique pink shirt, complimented with his self-designed wrap-skirt, brogues and completed his look with a baker boy hat! The bridesmaids wore antique pink sweetheart midi length pleated dresses with suede tanned boots. Best man was a mini Leigh!! His son in the same attire as his Dad. We had American country music accompanied by Rod Stewart tracks too!
Tell us about what inspired your wedding look?
In summary, I would describe our wedding as quintessentially English countryside, with a romantic & rustic equestrian blend, including a twist of London, plus American country music, accompanied with a hint of Rod Stewart!
What made you choose a pair of House of Elliot shoes for your wedding day?
I knew I wanted a pair of statement boots and I knew the look I was after. After searching the internet I found my dream boots….elegance and tradition combined with the romance and desire required!
What did you love the most about your wedding day?
So difficult to chose as the day was so magical throughout, but in particular… my lasting memory was seeing Leigh’s face as I turned to walk down the aisle. After the ceremony we had a private ride together around the local lane’s with the horses. and then of course I loved his reaction on seeing the boots!
What pearls of wisdom would you share with future brides who are planning their wedding?
Enjoy it!! You don’t have to spend a fortune to get your dream wedding…. be resourceful on some things, then you can splash the cash on some ‘must have’ elements. Friends and family will love to help, so if they offer, accept it! Don’t procrastinate on decisions, delegate where you can and just go with your gut feelings. Enjoy every second of your wedding…. it goes in a flash like everyone says, so take time out to spend 10 mins alone with your new husband to reflect on the day so far.
